| what does
all these musical styles mean ? for those who may ask what these musical categorys are and what they stand for here a short description. in some ways these definitions make no scence and most exiting and upfront music may not fit into them and some should fit in more then one of them. anyway here i go: |
|||
| acid | |||
| 303 bass synth lines who never reach a climax and a good steady dance 4/4 beat is what you expect from this music invented in the years 86/87 for the world. | |||
| breakcore | |||
| hard to catch. this term flys around since mid 90ties and mostly stands for chopped up breaks, distorted and fast. some of old mashup style jungle tracks may fit into these and some stuff done at digital hardcore recordings too. but as sayed its hard to define because the intention of it is to get further, like it once was in dnb and then somewhat runs dead. | |||
| cutup | |||
| bourrogh invented cutup technics by recording random sounds on magnetic tape. cutup are the sex of unpredictable experience. so this category is mostly for very interresting pieces of sound with no structure. | |||
| downtempo | |||
| ok thats maybe a lame category. mostly it says these music is under 120 bpm or something like that. think about something that also is called triphop, dopebeats whatever... | |||
| drones | |||
| beatless, mostly floating pieces of sound and accustic recordings. hard to dance too. in some way experimental and in some way noise. | |||
| dub | |||
| its not allways raggae where dub says on the can. so here we go for deeper beats with lots of feedback delay and lots of ( ok mostly ) free space inbetween the action. massive bass is also a quality of dub sound. | |||
| electronic | |||
| yak! this is quite a silly category. because most of the music here is produced with electronic instruments. anyway there are lots of similar sounding categorys fit into these one. first all these retro sounding 80ies stuff, second the dance music known as electro and third stuff that is known as electronica. it useally is popish, dancemusic for most people, got melodies...and sometimes vocals | |||
| experimental | |||
| another strange category i made up. i think there can argued a lot of what is experimental. in the end most of good stuff is experimental. i think some stuff i drop here is hard to consume, is not pointed to mainstream dancefloors or some way conceptual. | |||
| gabbahouse speedcore |
|||
| these styles fighting for hard and harsh 4 to the floor dancesound, sometimes in a funny way and sometimes it is meaned mean. good partymusic. tekno for the hardedge. | |||
| grindcore | |||
| kind of rock music played with guitars. short dirty outbursts of a mixture of punk and metal played as fast as possible. | |||
| hardcore | |||
| i guessed it was tekno music with a hardcore rave attitude. silly category as i think now. cause what is not hardcore? | |||
| hiphop | |||
| two turntables and a microphone and lots of rapping. hiphop also stands for breakdance and grafitti. so there you go with your crew. | |||
| housemusic | |||
| slick dancemusic with lots of subcategorys. repetive and funky. the differences are so big as the different parts of your city. | |||
| idm | |||
| intelligent dance music was a category in electronica. its uses melodies and beats in funny time signatures and is mostly melancholic then extatic. tryes a step between dance and listen music. | |||
| jazz | |||
| is not dead but smells funny. serious music! | |||
| jungle dnb | |||
| all these types of stuff that were invented in early 90ies of breakbeat music in uk. jungle ( with ragga and raggae or rap vocals ), drum and bass, techstep, hardstep, darkstep, 2 step, mashup and jazzy... whatever. pitched up breaks and bass. | |||
| mashups | |||
| in one way the term of a jungle style meant to mashup dancefloors and in the other way something like mashing up music (like remix, but these term got bogus). combining different music genres and making sense or non-sense with it. destructive but very good to get a party massive in partification. | |||
| pop? | |||
| thats what sound popish. often with vocals and then very much with emotions and melodies. | |||
| ragga | |||
| jamaican dancehall music like ragga, roots and raggamuffin. ey. | |||
| rock music | |||
| having a bunch of guys (sometimes girls) playing instruments and learning songs. rock and roll, blues, beat, hardrock, progrock, punkrock, heavy metal, garage. simple music all others are pop. | |||
| tekno | |||
| machine dancemusic without emotions but lots of repeating patterns. | |||
| noise | |||
| there is noise, noize and harsh noise. and there is a big difference between the white and the pink noise fraction. serious music. it is not saying that this is allways loud stuff, even decent mostly silent stuff can be noise. even a field recording of your local children playground is noise. | |||
